On the eve of NAIDOC Week, a celebration and recognition of the history, the culture and the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the Governor and Mr Wilson were delighted to welcome over 100 representatives of community, government and cultural and educational organisations to Government House in celebration of this year's theme: 'The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy'. 

Recognising NAIDOC Week's 50th anniversary year, Her Excellency said: "We honour the Elders whose wisdom guides all of us and recognise those who teach, guide, support and encourage ‘the next generation’, including those here today who do that on a daily basis ..."

"To each of you here and those around the State who are enabling the next generation to have strength, a vision, and their own legacy – thank you."
