Government House, Sydney
Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC

Our hearts go out to those across our State impacted by the floods of recent days. Dennis and I send our condolences to the families and friends of those whose lives have tragically been lost. The devastation of livelihoods, property and infrastructure has been overwhelming.

All of this comes on top of challenging years of drought, bushfires, earlier floods and the pandemic.

And yet, again we see the indomitable community spirit of the people of New South Wales: neighbours looking out for each other; relentless efforts to rescue those that have been isolated; and kindness offered generously to friends and strangers alike.

Our police and emergency services have been extraordinary. The work of SES volunteers has been mighty. These efforts, together with the contribution of the ADF and other response services, have saved lives. You have all gone above and beyond. Thank you.

With the situation still ongoing, please follow advice and stay safe.  There will be much work to be done by and for our communities to recover and rebuild.  At this moment, however, the heartfelt thoughts of the people of New South Wales are with you.
