Government House Sydney welcomes visitors to the House and magnificent grounds of one of Australia's oldest buildings.

This winter we are excited to be undertaking significant maintenance and restoration works in the Main Hall. The House will remain open as usual according to the schedule below.

In the Main Hall the portraits and furnishings have been removed, and extensive scaffolding is in place to facilitate the repainting of the walls and ceiling. The painting is a necessary step in preserving this wonderful heritage building and has provided an opportunity to restore the ceiling to its 1879 design, in keeping with the other Staterooms.

On entry visitors will be able to view signage about this project including an image of the room taken around 1890 which is helping to guide the restoration. Come and see this project as it is underway and then return for the grand reveal!

Other rooms, such as the Inner Hall, Dining Room, Drawing Room and Ballroom are in their usual spectacular condition.
