Today the Governor has marked 80 years since the announcement of Victory in the Pacific, joining veterans , ADF personnel, and members of the public at events at The Cenotaph, the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway, and the Anzac Memorial.
At The Cenotaph she concluded her remarks with these words:
The Pacific was peaceful again. The men and women who gave their all, abroad and here at home, will never be forgotten.
And then quoted the words of 100 year old veteran John McAuley who was present:
War is not to be glorified. What we need is peace with justice.
Lest we forget
