As Vivid lights up Government House Sydney by night this coming Queen’s Birthday long weekend, by day the House will light up with two special events.

Queen’s Birthday Open Day

On Sunday 10 June, Government House will be open to the public. Visitors are invited to explore the grand interiors of one of Australia’s finest historical buildings, with friendly guides available to give background information and answer questions.

For the very first time, a special “Back of House” tour will be offered which will take in areas rarely seen by the public. Sign up is available on the day for visitors older than 12 who are looking for a little adventure!

Government House Sydney’s beautiful gardens will also be open for a stroll in this stunning location overlooking the Opera House and Sydney Harbour.

Live music will be provided by ensembles from the NSW Police Band and the Australian Army Band.

Queen’s Birthday Ceremonial Parade 

On Monday afternoon, the Queen’s Birthday Ceremonial Parade will be held on the Parade Ground in the front of Government House.

From the moment the New South Wales Police Band marches through the gates at 2:20pm on Monday afternoon spectators will be treated to a feast of colour, movement and music, culminating in a 21 Gun Salute at 3:30pm.

Multiple Marching Bands, Mounted Police, a Ceremonial Guard, Pipes and Drums, and an RAAF Flypast will feature in this event honouring the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, who turned 92 this year. 

The Governor of New South Wales, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), will receive the Royal Salute.

For the very first time, one hundred young men and women from three New South Wales Schools from the 2nd Brigade of the Australian Army Cadets, will provide the Guard which is central to the ceremony.

Queen’s Birthday Open Day

When: Sunday 10 June 2018, 10:00am – 4:00pm.

Where: Government House Sydney, Macquarie St. Enter by the gates at the Conservatorium of Music.

What: Explore the house, join a special “Back of House” Tour, stroll through the grounds, enjoy live music performed by ensembles from the NSW Police and Australian Army Bands, purchase coffee and hot chocolate from the Salvos Community Coffee Van.

Additional Information:

  • Entry is free of charge
  • No parking is available on site
  • “Back of House Tours” are limited, registration is available on the day to those over 12 years of age.
  • When touring the house all items must be cloaked [except for handheld items such as a phone, small camera or enclosed water bottle]

Queen’s Birthday Ceremonial Parade 

When: Monday 11 June 2018, 2:20pm – 3:30pm

Where: Parade Ground, Government House Sydney, entry via the gates at the Conservatorium of Music. Watch from the Vivid viewing space on the Royal Botanical Gardens side of the Government House Parade Ground. Vivid restroom facilities will be available.

What: A Ceremonial Parade honouring the 92nd Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Featuring Marching Bands, Mounted Police, a 100 member Cadet Ceremonial Guard, Pipes and Drums, RAAF Flypast.

Additional Information: 

  • Entry to the viewing area is free of charge
  • No parking is available on site
  • The 21 Gun Salute marking the end of the Ceremony is conducted at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair
  • The event will be cancelled or modified in the case of wet weather. Any notice of cancellation or changes to the event because of weather will be posted on www.governor.nsw.gov.au at 9:00am on Monday 11 June 2018 and on Facebook and Instagram @GovernorNSW
